XReach RealWear installation

How to install XReach onto a RealWear device

Setting Up Your Computer

  1. Download RealWear Explorer for your PC or Mac from the RealWear site: https://realwear.com/knowledge-center/developer/rw-explorer/#getting-started

  2. Install RealWear Explorer onto your PC or Mac.

  3. Launch RealWear Explorer.

Pair RealWear Glasses with RealWear Explorer

While RealWear Explorer is open, connect your RealWear headset onto your PC or Mac using an appropriate USB cable.

RealWear Explorer will detect your Glasses and prompt for the installation of the RealWear Cast app onto your Glasses.

NOTE: If your RealWear Glasses are not recognized by RealWear Explorer, put the glasses on, say

Navigate Home -> My Programs -> My Controls -> Power Options -> Reboot

in order to force the RealWear Glasses to be recognized by RealWear Explorer and continue with the installation of the RealWear Cast app.

Click on Yes on your computer. RealWear Cast installation will start on your Glasses. After the installation finishes and the connection is established, you will see the following dialog.

Either click on Start Now, or say Start Now.

Note: If you don't see this and instead see the below image with a red box that says "Press ACTION button to reactivate your microphones", then press the ACTION button to reactivate your microphones and continue with the installation process. This is normal, because if you don't have the glasses on, it conserves battery power by disabling microphones, which you can then re-enable by pressing the ACTION button.

Now that the RealWear Cast app has started, you are able to control the Glasses and take screenshots, and install APKs.

Setting up RealWear Companion

Install the RealWear Companion app onto your Android or iOS device. (Click on the operating system names in the previous sentence for links) Launch the RealWear Companion app.

The RealWear Companion app will now look like below:

Tap on Configuration.

Tap on First Time Setup to start setting up your Glasses with the RealWear Companion app.

Select your Language and tap on Next.

Tap on Next to continue setting up.

Tap on Enter network name to set your Wi-Fi (case-sensitive! Remember capitalization)

Tap on Set network security to set the correct security (normally WPA/WPA2 PSK - if you know otherwise, use that knowledge)

You are now ready to tap on Generate Code.

You are now ready with the QR code, which can be scanned onto any Glasses used on your premises. If you have multiple Glasses working via the same Wi-Fi Network, you can use the QR code to set them all onto that specific Wi-Fi Network.

If you are in the RealWear Companion view (see below) on your Glasses, just hold the phone with the QR code near your Glasses camera. Otherwise, say Navigate Home, then My Programs, then Configuration, and hold the phone near your Glasses camera to read it.

After this, a few seconds will pass and your Glasses will connect to your Wi-Fi Network. You are now ready to continue with the installation.

Updating RealWear Glasses

Activate the RealWear Glasses. They will default to showing the Home Screen - if not, say Navigate Home.

Say My Programs

Say Wireless Update

Run through the Check for Updates process as many times as it takes to get all the required updates. There might be more than one. Each update needs to be downloaded, and then the Glasses need to restart themselves. Continue checking until there are no more updates. Each time you will be prompted to say Install and OK and so on.

PLEASE NOTE: EACH UPDATE OF REALWEAR GLASSES WILL RESET THE AUTOMATIC TIMEZONE + AUTOMATIC DATE SETTINGS. VERIFY THAT THEY ARE SET TO <ON> AFTER EVERY UPDATE.

Now that your Glasses have been updated, it's time to move onto the next chapter, which is to make sure that calling with XReach works.

Setting Date & Time to automatic

For calls to function properly, you need to set your Glasses to Automatic Date and Automatic Time.

Say Navigate Home. Say My Programs. Say Settings. Say Page down. Say Page down. Say System. Say Date & Time. Say Select Item 3. Say Select Item 6. The result should now look similar to the screenshot below:

Double-check that both Use network-provided time and Network-provided timezone are selected.

Installing the XReach RealWear app

Now you are ready to drag the XReach APK onto the Dropzone of the RW Explorer app, which will start the installation. The XReach APK will have been sent to you by Softability or your IT department.

You will see Installing APKs (see below)

And afterwards you will see an Installation Result dialog, telling you of a Successful install.

You can now press OK on the RealWear Explorer app and command your Glasses: Say Navigate Home -> My Programs -> XReach.

Congrats, you have now used the RealWear Explorer app to install XReach onto your RealWear Glasses.
